Cameron Michael Townsend has FINALLY arrived!!!
On August 12, 2011, at 41 weeks pregnant, we arrived at the hospital at 8AM for a schedule induction. We got in our room and I got all hooked up to my IV, baby monitors, and the nurse checked me and at that point I had dialted to 1cm but was still really thick. At 9AM the nurse gave me Cytotech to induce my labor. This was a tiny little tablet that was the quarter the size of a birth control pill, that was inserted next to my cervix. Not too long after I did start to just feel a little crampy, but not too bad. This dissolved within 30 minutes and had to just wait and see for 6 hours. So at 3PMish the nurse checked me again and I was still at 1cm but had thinned out a little bit. So she inserted another tablet and it was another kindof wait for another 6 hours. This is when things get a little blurry. Within a half hour to an hour of the second dose I started having really really bad cramping. I was dealing with it for awhile, because I didn't want to interrupt Jason and the nurse talking about their second home in Gatlinburg that she wants to sell. So I just listened and tried to reposition. About 4 or so I was really hurting and my pain was probably the 8-10/10. I started to cry and was really uncomfortable. The nurse asked if I wanted some pain meds to take the edge off and I agreed. She inserted that through my IV and right away it made me sleepy, but really didn't take the edge off much at all. Jason was rubbing my back and nothing seemed to work. So sometime after that I got my epidural. The worst part was probably when he put the local in. After the epidural I pretty much felt relief within 15 minutes. I don't know how anyone can have a baby naturally, the epidural was amazing. The only probably I had with it was it made me shake, but the nurse also said that usually happens with people that go naturally to during the transition phase and about an hour after birth which it did with me as well. Also, the epidural made my right leg completely worthless, I was not able to move it much at all. Anyhow, After finally getting relief from the epidural I relaxed a little and the next time the nurse checked me I was 8-9cm and completely thinned out and I believe at 8:30pm I was completely dialated and completely thinned out. At that point we thought it was going to be any minute before I was going to start pushing, but my water had not broke yet. So after about 2 hours or so I think the doctor came in and broke my water but said that he was still a little high up there and that we would just wait it out to see if he would come down more. Then at 11:30ish the nurse had me do some practice pushes to see if that would get him moving down, and it helped a little but not much. So we waited a little more and about 12:15ish the nurse said it was time to get started and we were just going to have to push him out. After several pushes he was coming down but not a lot and the nurse asked if I had thought about using a mirror. She said that sometimes helps so you know when you are pushing properly and can see the progress. I had NEVER thought about using one and thought it was pretty weird, but I am so glad that I used it, because it was very helpful when pushing. The doctor came in when we were getting close and had to manual turn his head, because he was facing the wrong direction to come out properly. So after about 10 hours of actual labor an hour of pushing CAMERON MICHAEL TOWNSEND was FINALLY born!!!!! The doctor put him up on my chest and i definately started crying a little and was just so happy he was here. Jason actually cut the cord and was amazing through the entire process. He really was a rock and I don't think he got queezy at all. I even saw him looking in the mirror a couple of times. He helped with my left leg, my mom helped with my head, and Jason's mom helped pick up my very heavy, dead right leg. I have to thank all three of them for getting me through the pushing, they made it so easy on me. Cameron weighed in at 7 pounds 15 ounces, 22 inches long and was born August 13, 2011 at 1:22AM. We are very blessed to have this little miracle in our lives. I will update you with what has happened the past 3 days, but I need to go tend to my little man as we speak. Enjoy!!!
